Health Care & Medical Services Industry Sector:

 GWIB

Health Care Sector

The Health and Medical Services industry is key to Nevada to securing growth of a large, relatively stable base of economic activities and high-quality jobs in the state. This industry affects all employers and residents, ensuring a high quality of life for the state and attracting further economic activity.

Jobs in Health and Medical Services cover a wide range of positions, from moderately to very highly skilled, and employment has grown steadily over the past decade in the state of Nevada, remaining positive even during the recent economic recession.

Between 2006 and 2011, employment in this sector grew despite the economic downturn. The largest gains came in general medical and surgical hospitals, home health care services, and in medical offices.

While health education programs at various levels are abundant, the pipeline for health and medical careers still needs alignment within the system, largely as a result of workforce supply and demand gaps. By building a strong Health and Medical Services industry in the state, complete with a robust educational pipeline and centers of excellence for care and research, Nevada will be able to take advantage of opportunities in this industry.

The mission of the GWIB Health Care & Medical Services Sector Council is to identify workforce needs and develop initiatives to educate its workforce in support of the economic development goals of the state.

This sector Council has several subcommittees, supporting Council goals:

  • Legislative/Regulatory/Policy
  • Data/Evaluation/Research
  • Industry Intelligence
  • Grants and Resources
  • Education/Training
