Aerospace & Defense Industry Sector:
The Aerospace and Defense (A&D) industry in Nevada has a long history of research, designing, developing, and applying a variety of technologies for defense applications.
Nevada is home to Nellis Air Force Base, Creech Air Force Base, Naval Air Station Fallon and the Hawthorne Army Depot.
Nevada’s test ranges host specialized testing and training activities for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) platforms, which will play a key role in the development of a new generation of military vehicles. Nevada’s commercial aerospace industry, represented with companies like Boeing and Bigelow Aerospace, is dedicated to provide affordable options for spaceflights to national space agencies and corporate clients, revolutionizing space commerce.
The Desert Research Institute, a publicly funded research center within the Nevada System of Higher Education, is a global innovator in the development and use of technology for this industry.
To support growth and future development of the A&D industry, Nevada has to produce an educated and skilled workforce. STEM education as a part of the high school curriculum will benefit students in their preparation for college in engineering fields. Universities and community colleges are offering undergraduate and advanced degrees in Professional Aeronautics, Space Education, Systems Engineering, etc.
